Applications Open - Surgical Director of FST

The current Surgical Director of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers (FST), Mr David O’Regan, will demit office on 31 March 2022. Applications are therefore invited for appointment to the post of FST Surgical Director from 1 April 2022. 

The Director is responsible, in collaboration with the Faculty Executive, for leading, developing and steering the FST in pursuit of its objectives and activities, which include: 

a)     Championing the role and recognition of the surgical trainer;

b)     Promoting the development of current and future surgical trainers;

c)     Enhancing the quality of surgical training through the promotion of high-quality education and teaching;

d)     Setting and maintaining standards in surgical training and education; and

e)     Promoting the FST as an authoritative institution in matters of professional, educational or public interest concerning surgical education and training.

The Director plays a critical and high-profile role in the executive leadership of the Faculty and is supported in this critical leadership role by the wider Executive Committee, including two Deputy Directors, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer. The Executive Committee, in turn is supported by an Advisory Board which is representative of both the FST membership and the wider surgical education and training community.
